Dr. Goldsmith earned a medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (USUHS) in 1989. He completed an internal medicine internship at Letterman Army Medical Center (1989-90), followed by a residency in Radiation Oncology at the University of California, San Francisco in 1990-93. He is board-certified in Radiation Oncology and Hospice/Palliative Medicine. Additionally, he is a Flight Surgeon in the US Army (1989-present). First as the 3-140th AVN Flight Surgeon (2013-16), and currently as the 40th Combat Aviation Brigade Surgeon (2016-present).

Dr. Goldsmith has received numerous academic awards. Additionally, he has been awarded numerous military awards and medals, including Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, United States Army; the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, United States Army; Knight of Order of Saint Michael, Army Aviation Association of America, among others.  

Dr. Goldsmith values professional service in addition to his continued military service. Since 1997, he has served as the Editor-in-Chief of the American College of Radiology Journal. Dr. Goldsmith has numerous professional publications and presentations focused on the areas of Leadership, Medical Informatics, Education, Central Nervous System Tumors, Palliative Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and Aviation Medicine.

He enjoys spending time with his family, staying active, and flying his plane in his free time.
