Future Education Model Graduate Program in Clinical Nutrition

The University of the Pacific School of Health Sciences’ Nutrition and Dietetics Education Program has been granted candidacy status by the Accreditation Council for Education (ACEND) in Nutrition and Dietetics of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, 120 South Riverside Plaza, Suite 2190, Chicago, IL 60606-6995, 312.899.0040 ext. 5400. www.eatrightpro.org/ACEND. This new and innovative MS in Clinical Nutrition Future Graduate (FG) Future Education Model (FEM) program is designed to prepare entry level Registered Dietitian/ Nutritionists (RDNs).

The program is now accepting applications for the 2020-2021 academic year.

The Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) has released Future Education Model Accreditation Standards for Graduate Degree Programs. Pacific’s Clinical Nutrition program has been accepted as an early adopter demonstration program for the purpose of setting future graduate standards.

ACEND program definitions

ACEND® has established a process for reviewing complaints against accredited programs to fulfill its public responsibility for assuring the quality and integrity of the educational programs that it accredits. Any individual, for example, student, faculty, dietetics practitioner and/or member of the public may submit a complaint against any accredited program to ACEND®. However, the ACEND® board does not intervene on behalf of individuals or act as a court of appeal for individuals in matters of admissions, appointment, promotion or dismissal of faculty or students. It acts only upon a signed allegation that the program may not be compliant with the Accreditation Standards or policies. The complaint must be signed by the complainant. Anonymous complaints are not considered.

The MSCN Program advocates for productive and supportive relations between students, faculty and staff. The process is a coordinated effort by all involved and its outcome is focused on improved understanding. When a concern arises, the student is encouraged to voice his/her concern to the individual (fellow student, staff or faculty member) involved. If the issue is not resolved, the student is encouraged to discuss the issue with the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) released the Future Education Model Accreditation Standards for programs in nutrition and dietetics (see www.eatrightpro.org/FutureModel). The successful completion of all graduate course work, SCPE and FG competencies will lead to a Master of Science (MS) degree in Clinical Nutrition. Program graduates will be eligible to take the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) credentialing exam to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.

Any student may file a complaint and a conflict resolution process to resolve a program problem that is not resolved after the Informal Program Level and Formal School Level processes.
