Program Schedule

The Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition (MSCN) is a 16-month, 59-credit full-time graduate program that is completed in four continuous trimesters (fall, spring, summer, fall) which follows the School of Health Sciences trimester academic calendar. Enrollees complete the curriculum as a cohort, with new cohorts starting annually in August and completing the program the following year in December. A program orientation is scheduled the week before fall trimester starts.

Program Cohort Dates

  • 2020-2021 Cohort: Aug. 24, 2020 to Dec. 17, 2021
  • 2021-2022 Cohort: Aug. 23, 2021 to Dec. 16, 2022
  • 2022-2023 Cohort: Aug. 22, 2022 to Dec. 15, 2023

Holidays and Recess

Pacific observes most federal holidays. During Supervised Clinical Practice Experience (SCPE), students do not follow the university holiday schedule, but rather the holiday schedule for the clinical education site. Students have scheduled time off between the fall and spring trimesters (approximately 3 weeks) and between the summer and fall2 trimesters (approximately 1 week).

Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition Course Sequence Plan

The first trimester is dedicated to didactic coursework to establish a strong foundation of knowledge and competencies in preparation for subsequent supervised clinical practice experience (SCPE) rotations. The second, third and fourth trimesters start with compressed six-week didactic courses followed by ten weeks of SCPE rotations during which students are in rotation 4.5 days and spend a half-day on Friday afternoons in a virtual face-to-face (F2F) classroom for debriefing sessions or interactive classes with Pacific faculty or guest instructors.

The majority of Pacific’s MSCN courses are delivered via In-Person classroom instruction on our Sacramento campus, but also includes some Hybrid courses (combination of In-Person and Online instruction). Students’ Supervised Clinical Practice Experience (SCPE) courses (NUTR 287A,B,C) take place at clinical education sites throughout California and some out-of-state facilities.
