Patients, Pills & Pathologies: Why Medical History Clues Are Critical to General Dental Treatment

Presenter: Amber D. Riley, MS, RDH

Daily, we encounter medically compromised patients with age-related diseases such as cancer; lifestyle-associated factors such as drug use and obesity; and abnormal physical conditions that demand a sharpened focus during treatment planning, delivery of care and periodontal maintenance in general dentistry. These patients require clinicians who have competent insight into medicine and pharmacotherapies, and are capable of deducing findings from patient medical histories and are willing to collaborate with patients’ medical providers to provide optimal dental care. During this course, you will learn common medical disorders that general dentists encounter in their practice; how to recognize neurologic, behavioral and psychiatric disorders, including drug and alcohol abuse; drug interactions that are significant to dentistry; a review of basic epidemiology and pathophysiology; and accepted medical therapy and specific dental management recommendations.

Overcoming Clinical Challenges in a Restorative Dental Practice—An Evidence-Based and Pragmatic Approach

Presenter: Jeff Brucia, DDS

Minimally invasive procedures have proven to provide predictable and long-lasting results when the best techniques are applied. During this fast-paced lecture, Dr. Brucia will use science to support the step-by-step clinical presentations of several cases. He will also introduce advanced restorative and adhesive concepts. You will learn to understand the different adhesive systems and the indications/limitations for use, considerations for complete vs. partial caries removal and diagnosis and clinical techniques for the treatment of cracked teeth.
